  • Successful strategy of client proximity

Successful strategy of client proximity

21 April 2015

Revenue of CHF 182 million (+6.2%), expansion to 33 locations – BDO Switzerland reached new record figures in 2014 and was able to further strengthen its market position thanks to its unique combination of regional offices and national network of experts.

The new Langenthal office is the perfect example of why BDO Switzerland is so successful with SMEs, public administrations and non-profit organisations. In August 2014, BDO acquired two accounting and auditing firms there to consolidate its presence in Oberaargau. Clients in Langenthal can now benefit from the BDO service offering:

  • BDO is right where its clients are. Each client has a personal local contact who knows him/her and his/her company personally.
  • BDO provides a wide range of services, including accounting, auditing and tax and legal advice. In addition to local contacts, clients can also consult specialists in BDO Switzerland's national network. In 2014, BDO further expanded its service portfolio and now also advises companies with international operations on the deployment of staff in Switzerland and abroad. BDO takes care of dealing with the authorities, obtaining work permits and handling HR administration.
  • BDO Switzerland is part of the international BDO network, which in 2014 expanded to now include 151 countries. Swiss companies can utilise its services for their operations outside Switzerland's borders.

"We combine the personal contact and geographic proximity of a local accounting service provider with the services, experts, infrastructure and international network of a large accounting and auditing company," says Werner Schiesser, CEO of BDO Switzerland.

Financial Services exhibits rapid growth

The strategy is bearing fruit: in 2014, BDO Switzerland increased its revenue by 6.2% from CHF 171 million to CHF 182 million. Financial Services again proved the most successful with an increase of 21% to CHF 14.9 million, which highlights the growing demand for auditing and advisory services in the financial sector. In Management Consulting, revenue grew by 12% to CHF 10.0 million, which is mainly attributable to clients' increasing demand for valuations and assistance with regard to mergers and acquisitions.

BDO also posted significant gains in its core areas of Auditing (+5.5% to CHF 63.2 million) and Accounting Services (+6.1% to CHF 59.0 million).

High level of customer satisfaction

A survey in the autumn of 2014 again revealed that clients are happy with the personal assistance they receive from BDO consultants and that they rate its professional expertise, commitment and ability to think ahead very highly.
