BDO remains successful

15 April 2013

The audit, accounting and consulting firm BDO advanced in all main areas in 2012. Growth was particularly strong in Tax and Legal Advice, up 5.4 percent, and Financial Services, up 14.3 percent. Audit and Accounting progressed at a slightly lower rate. Management Consultancy and Real Estate saw lower revenues.

Growing demand for advisory services
BDO has been able to continue to build on its traditionally strong position in Audit and Accounting by concentrating on small and medium-sized companies, pension plans, non-profit organisations and the public sector, despite the option smaller companies enjoy to do without an audit. BDO is the largest accountant in Switzerland and the number two in audit by number of mandates.
Tax and Legal Advice is dominated by the increasing complexity of direct and indirect taxation. Rising uncertainty among SMEs and private individuals again boosted the demand for advisory services in 2012.
To some extent, the same was apparent in Financial Services clients - the regulation of banks and assets managers is becoming ever stricter. Also, only a few companies offer this type of service for smaller and medium-sized institutions. This has stimulated demand, once again allowing BDO to make significant gains in this area.

Expanding internet accountancy services
2012 saw BDO gain its 1,000th client for the "Internet-Accountant". When it comes to supporting web-based services, BDO is the leader in Switzerland. An increasing number of users are coming to appreciate the user-friendliness and round-the-clock availability of web-based accountancy services.
The year also saw BDO strengthen its leading position as an ABACUS selling partner and reseller of ABACUS software. These services are now also available for all client IT needs, primarily those of SMEs, in Western Switzerland as well.

Increasingly tighter global network
At the end of 2012 the BDO network covered 138 countries and employed some 55,000 staff. Worldwide revenues rose 6 percent to over USD 6 billion, further strengthening BDO's position as an alternative to the big four international auditors.
